A Few Speaker Questions

Twisted, I think you may have misread my previous post. I never said anything about 6x9s, getting a sub (which I never will), or buying $300 speakers. In fact, I refuse to spend over $150 per pair. I have decided to only buy front speakers. That isn't going to change.

So, my last and final question is: What are the best 5x7/6x8 speakers I can get within my price range?

Sorry about that i meant to put "6x8's" which doesn't changet the fact that there your rear speakers even though its 1 inch difference. Also i know you are not getting a sub i simply pointed out a reason why people in general(not you) would get rear speakers. When you said "150 dollars a pair" i thought that meant one pair for the front and one pair for the back or combine the money for 300 and just get the fronts, thats my mistake //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. Anyways to the question at hand i still think that you should do what i said in my previous post and just goto circuit city and check for that sale. Far as which brand to get, well everyone is different in there opinions on which ones sound the best. I would personally go with the alpine type S they have there i would have got them but there brand new as of 2 weeks. I hope this clears up all your questions and sorry about the misunderstanding

Thanks Twisted. I apoligize if I came off a little rude. You've been extremely helpful.

The main problem is: Circuit City only carries one speaker that I would even think of getting, Infiiny Reference. So I am planning to buy online.

I understand your feelings towards circuit city, the main reason i went there is because there the only place that has a "peformance warrenty" which means if you blow your speaker or anything happens to it they replace at no charge to you. Even if you blow it by giving it to much power and its your fault they replace it(no i don't work for circuit city heh) i just found that a great deal i mean i spent 20 dollars on a warrenty for 2 years. Just because you buy speakers that you can't run enough watts to doesn't mean you can't do damage to your speaker and blow them. I just learned that about a week ago i forget the users name on here but he sited me a link(I will have to look for it) basically just saying if you turn your volume up to loud and your hear clipping or distorting then its damaging the voice coils.(not that you should have that problem if you stick to not turning your volume up). Now i went ahead and looked around for 5x7's and the only online dealer that i have only heard good things about and honest about having all the dealers warrenty's is "www.thezeb.com" so i did a search for the 5x7's you need here it is. http://www.thezeb.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=15

the only one that i can honestly tell you is good quality is the kicker because my friend jon in okc was obessed with kicker and all his speakers were kicker and i thought sounded really good(some may disagree but like i said everyone is different). Keep in mind if you buy online this is the part where it might change your mind to buy online.. If you buy lets say the "5x7's by kicker" you only have a 90 day warrenty if something is defective if you install it yourself. Now saying kicker is very popular you should have a dealer near you which i would have them install the speakers and get a full warrenty on them, visit there website at http://www.kicker.com. Thats just an example but whatever brand you go with will be the same way far as having the authorized dealer of that brand install it to get a decent warrenty. Saying those kicker speakers are only 100 dollars i would assume the install would be 35 and an additional 20 for the warrenty. I know that is a little out of your budget but whats 25 dollars right? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif If you have any more questions feel free to ask and to learn about the "thezeb" simply goto the general disc. and goto "company list" they talk about good/bad online car audio company's which i found very helpful.

I would be extremely happy to purchase from Circuit City, but as I said, they only had 3 5x7/6x8 speakers, and one was a Sony. So my options would be exceptionally limited.

Another thing is that I don't want to pay for installation. Accesing the speaker in my car is relatively easy, and I've installed speakers before with the help of my tech-savvy friend.

EDIT: I want to make a choice soon, so I'll have a "poll." Which one of the following would you pick, basing primarily on SQ and secondarily on price.

Infinity Kappa 572.5CF

JL TR570-CXi

Boston Acoustics NX 87

Boston Acoustics FX8

MB Quart Discus DKE 168

Well i haven't heard those speakers so i can only go by what people on this forum said about them which in my opinion goes just as far(If multiple people say the same things about the speaker). Far as infinity kappa i read on here(It would take alot of time to do a search for each one but i will go just off my memory). They are good speakers but to some the tweeters are to harsh. Boston accoustics are the best out of that list but i cant' say for the different brands i can just speak for in general. For the mb quartz i have heard nothing but good reviews. So that leaves you with 2 brands that got good reviews on this site. For your price range i would go with that boston accoustics the cheaper one which is in your budget. If you got time you can always search on the forums to find out more about boston accoustics but since i have been a member(which might not be long but i goto this forum multiple times a day) i have heard only good things.

Whats your thoughts on ebay? I found them on ebay from a power seller with a 99.8 which is really good on ebay for 75 dollars and he says there brand new. I haven't used ebay before but thats not to say i wouldn't look into it if it saved me alot of money and the person was dependable. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14940&item=5702202619

Just in case you dont' like ebay i will search around for a trustworthy retailer, but thats a great deal.

sorry for the double post

Thanks guys. Boston Acoustics it is. I have also heard only great things about them.

It's funny you mentioned ebay. That's actually how I was planning to buy my speakers, because the prices are just too low to avoid. It's somewhat of a scam, since the shipping is $20, but it's still cheaper than a store. Maybe even the good Boston Acoustics are cheap enough there (NX 87).

The cheaper ones, only because the more you underpower it the worse its going to sound (I found this out when i took my stock speakers out and put 300 dollar speakers and it sounded terrible when i turned up the volume to loud.)when turned up loud. I mean no point in spending the extra money to get that set that requires 160 watts rms when your using your stock cd player. Also keep me updated on how you like those boston accoustics i hope to get some after i get my sub and amp which should happen by august.
