A few amp noob questions

1. Just as an example, if you have a single 800 watt sub, does that mean that you need at least an 800 watt amp?

2. Been off the scene for a real long time. Last time i was in, Rockford fosgate was pretty much the amp you wanted to go with. Is that still the case? Or is it someone else these days like kicker?

3. What 4 channel amp would you recommend? Hope to have 1-13.5" JL TW5 1200 watt subwoofer. The rest just decent components. Mids and highs.

1. No, just because your Sub does 800w does not mean you need an amp that does 800, that is the max that sub can take.

2. Rockford still does make some good stuff, however there is a ton of better stuff nowadays. Kicker is meh.

3. 4 Channel amps are hard to recommend, I went around and wasted stereo shops time listening and hearing what the sales pitch was, then read alot on this forum and purchased a good amp in the for sale section. Read up, listen and decide whats best for you, price or quality, go with quality. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Hope this helps, GL.

Thanks. Which 4 channel amp did you go with? And were you happy with it? Seems like you would just need to make sure that it was the needed wattage per channel right? Or maybe not...

Its pretty much ideal to go with a single channel monoblock amplifier for subwoofers. If you have multiple subwoofers you would choose to wire the subwoofers in parallel or series depending upon what ohm load you are trying to achieve and the maximum ohm load of your amplifier.I recommend kicker for 2 ohm loads because all of their kx/zx lines are 2 ohm nominal impedance and they have enough wattage to cover most moderate builds.I also like sundown which is a slightly newer company that is affordable and quality all in one.

kicker and rockford are still great brands... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

if your gonna look for components the forum boner is usually hertz or morel if you got the dough (bought $200+) for a set. image dynamics is a great brand also. theres alot of non mainstream stuff that sound great. if you need help with components and your budget i can give some advice.

as far as 4 channels theres alot. rockford and kicker make great ones again and theres brands like sundown, PPI, i like the old school hifonics. and plenty more brands.

Yeah I am kinda hoping they will drop after some time goes by. But lucky for me, I will only be needing one. Since im not all about sheer overwhelming bass and all.

what everyone is means to say is that you can get the same quality or better than rockford or kicker for WAY less with some of the new internet companies out.
