91 Cavalier sound problems

Hey what's up everyone, this is my first time posting after searching the Web for hours for a solution.

As the title says I have a 91 Cavalier and I'm having problems hooking up the stereo. I bought an aftermarket wiring harness and I have a dual xom6350 stereo. I hooked all the wires up properly and have power going to the unit but no sound. The wires are all hooked up using butt connectors. Also on my harness there is an orange wire that has no adjoining wire one the unit. I checked the diagram and it says the orange is for constant 12v but the wire on the deck for constant is yellow I believe and it has a matching wire. I've been messing with this for a couple days now and any help would be greatly appreciated.

That orange does in fact connect to the yellow. What are you trying to play with? Radio, CD, aux line in?

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Try and run a speaker directly off the head unit. Meaning, hook one up where you can make sure the inboard amp is actually working. If the unit is powering up, make sure its playing. Might just have the speaker wires a little off

^That too. If I were you I'd take the deck out of the car and wire it up to a computer power supply in the house or wherever you may be working, just kinda allows you to lay everything out and see what is hooked where.

I have tried hooking one speaker up a couple different times but nothing happens. I hooked the old stereo up and it's still working if that makes a difference.

I've also looked at the factory harness and tried matching up the wires to where they lead out onto the aftermarket one and they all lead up except that orange one. And when the orange is hooked up to where it is supposed to be on the deck I get standby power but it will not turn on.

get the positive and negative wires for what you think might be a speaker wire and touch the pos and neg on each side of a AA battery, this will send a tiny amount of pwr through to the speaker, making it easier to find out what pair is for what speakers
