8ohms..Help

I ordered a c12 subwoofer from ikesound assuming it was a 4ohm (WEB page didnt say) . I ordered it and today recieved a 8 ohm version. My question is their anyway i can operate this sub by itself even tho its 8 ohms or will i need to exchange it for a 4 ohm version.

My amp is a US acoustics USX-4085, and was hoping to bridge ch 3 and 4 for 240W @ 4ohms MONO.

So what you think i should do now.

You could hook it up to your amp. But you wouldn't get

240w from your amp @ 8 ohms. More like around 120w.

Which for that sub is enough power. You'll be surprised how

well the C12 will perform with low amounts power.

And being 8 ohms you could always add another C12 later to get

a 4 ohm load for your amp. 120w for each C12

Or

Call IkeSound and see if they have any 4 ohm subs. If they

do send yours back and get the 4 ohm version.

I would try the 8 ohm sub first and see how you like it.

The power range for the C12 is 30-150w RMS

The 120w @ 8 ohms would work fine for that sub.

You don't need the 240w to make that sub perform.

And if you add another one later the ohm load would drop

to 4 ohms, which would be perfect for your amp.

Plus you won't have to deal with returning your sub and

waiting for another one.

If i exchange it to A 4 ohm woofer will i still have the ability to use two of them later on.

If you add a second svc 4 ohm driver you will end up with a 2 ohm load, assuming that your amp is 2 ohm stable (which you should verify)....you would get somewhere around 240 per sub....which would be a rockin setup......the only thing I am not sure of is my unstanding of bridging channeles is the amp sees half of what you actully have (because they are wired in parallel) which means that 1 8 ohm sub would actully be seeing 4 ohms if they are bridged......someone may want to confirm that, but that is my understanding.

So can someone give me the pros and cons of keeping the 8 or going for a 4 ohm version. Will the diference in sound (the bass) be different. Will it make it more difficult later for me if i would like to get another if i go either way.

I am sure you guys know how it is i am just uncrtain of whatever route i take.

nope....its just a level of resistence.......should sound fine either way......the lower the ohm load the less resistence the amp will see.....

ps if u need some help feel free to im me on aim or msn
