So im guessing that an 8 ohm sub should just be wired to 4 ohms. Is that right.

2 8 ohms is what i have - do i wire them down to 4 ohms

Wire them parallel to get a 4ohm load. Value of the resistor divided by the number of resistors gives final impedance when wired in parallel.
