8 inch subs x 4 for a JL audio 500/1

Hi I already have two JL audio amps in my truck with a custom box un the back seat of a GMC seirra. I had 4 Jl audio 8w3's in the box and the amp is a JL 500/1. The speakers burnt out after about a year and a half. They are run in parralel I believe and when one side went out- the speaker beside it wont function so one on each side burnt out so now. no sub bass.. I want to replace the subwoofers and instead of using JL audio 8w3's again a friend suggested Kicker 8 vr compations.. He told me they were less costly and more durable.. I do not want to build another cabinet I want to use the exsisting one so 4 / 8s is what I need.. the amps are in place also and for the subs it is a JL 500/1 any suggestions on 8 inch subs would be appreciated.. I do not want to spend a furtune either I dont have alot of money to purchase say 8w 7s either.. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks Hero

I have 4 of them in my workshop being powered by a Class GH Bazooka MGA11500H at 4 ohms.... 810 watts. No problems..sound great.... you can't always judge a book by it's cover can you?

You have to dinf out why your subs burnt out first. My guess is overheating due to clipping. try to get a hold of sundown e8's, image dynamics id8, ascendant audio assasin 8. I've tried all and they are all great.

You need something that doesn't need a lot of power, otherwise you're probably going to end up clipping your amp while trying to get more out of your subs. If you want something that'll actually work well off of the power that you have, then four of these would be a good choice.

Assassins, ID8's, E8's...while all being good subs, I think you'll find them less than impressive if running four off a 500 watt amp.

I agree with Ryan. If only feeding 125rms to each, its very common that the user will send clipped signals trying to compensate for the low power, thus harming the woofers.
