The amp has a 40a fuse to protect the amp. The fuse on the power wire is to protect the wire, 8g can handle 50a so if the fuse on the power wire blows replace it with a 50a fuse they are pretty cheap at auto parts stores.

depends on length. I remember when I had my amp installed as a sophomore(laziness). And they used 20 feet of 8-gauge on my hifonics bx1000d. I was pissed when I joined this site to find out that i need alot more wire than that. Now i use the 8-gauge as speaker wire.

That should work on 10' but any longer or more than 500 watts you should use 4g.
