I searched but really couldnt come up with a definite answer so i thought id ask...

Will 8 gauge power and ground wire be enough for 400 watts rms?

amperage matters not wattage, less than 50 amps you will be fine

400watts/12.5 volts = 32 amps

400watts/14.5 volts = 27.5 amps

i dont plan to upgrade anytime soon...I just have some 8 gauge laying around, and thought id put into use on the install on my 95 mustang gt i just bought. Not gonna be anything loud, just looking to add some bass to it as it doesnt have the mach 460.

According to the http://www.bcae1.com chart for power wire, 8 gauge is the very minimum that you could use for your system. You will not have any upgrade potential. As long as that is OK with you, 8 gauge is just enough.

That's what I'm saying if you don't plan to upgrade it will work. But if you do you'll need to run new wires.

Thanks fellas...i figured it would be fine...just wanted double check....id hate for my car to burn to the ground just cause i went small on power wire...
