Are there any reasonably priced 8's out there that will sound good in a door and do well for dedicated midbass. Like 80hz-400hz with 250w. Are there any major reasons why this owuld be a bad idea instead of sticking with 6.5's?

try and find a set of these German made MB Quart 8's.....they will make you happy......

I'd recommend the Peerless SLS 8"s as well. If you're worried about the 8 ohm, then bridge a 4 chan. That's a cheap way to get some powa to your mids.

good power handling, well vented/built, low fs. high value.
