8 12"s in a trunk?

Sounds like you already know your system's weak points... why are you looking to upgrade cone area instead? You are trying to get fancy with 8 12's when you dont have the fundamentals done yet.

agreed.

Invest in sound deadening and get proper voltage........they are your friends

The "You're doing something wrong, I had less cone area and did this" or "I had less power and scored this" replies need to stop. All of you are forgetting one key thing and that is the vehicle it is in. I've heard these cars are actually quite difficult to bass through into the cabin.

Everyone saying 140's should easily be broke with 2 12's isn't always true. I'd love to see one of you break that off 1500 or so rms in the trunk of a Lexus or BMW w/o a box ported through the rear deck/armrest/etc.

Too many variables involved in scores, you think these dumb replies help him? I don't. Answer his question and leave it alone.

Lastly for my rant, those replying about the low voltage prolly are right. If you realize this problem, why not fix that first then worry about upping cone area and building a new enclosure?

Thank you for actually being helpful, and yea they are using cars a lot easier to get loud in. I unbolt my backseat usually and it helps a lot, but when I have to have it in, I have cut my armrest out, and that helps, and I also removed my 6x9s. But I am thinking about also doing a port in my deck. I cant actually use aeroports and port through anything because of the gas tank not making the box even with the trunk opeing if that makes since. But this system in a suv/truck or something easier to move air in would be breakin 40s I'm sure. I just did not think getting my voltage up a little bit is going to make a big ear difference, but I guess I could be wrong.

I def agree with what you did already to increase the output inside the cabin. I have a 04 Crown Vic and it has a huge trunk as well. A friend of mine online has been thinking about doing 8 12s sealed, but gettin the measurements right is a big headache. I have a few pics of a design like that I could PM you but I dont know the dimensions of the box, got the pics off another forum.

Truthfully, if you were going with 8 12s I would go with a better sub than the CVRs (the subs my friend is trying to use) I thought about (8) 12 FI SSD and (2) Sundown 3000ds and just have a daily groundpounder that sounded good playing anything. But, (4) really good 12s like the CVXs ported would be a good choice as well.

Either way, im staying tuned...

I still really like the 8 12 idea, and maybe down the road I can sell all the CVRs and upgrade, but I already have 4, and can get 4 more for like $250. I can make the box for the subs, it would be cake sealed. I have it all mapped out in my head, and I wouldnt build it just like my current enclousure, only I would build into the bottum part of the trunk instead of the box just going from 1 side to the other and resting on the steps.

Im not sure I understand where yuou are seeing this huge advantgage in output going from 4 12's ported to 8 12's sealed anyway. Should be relatively close in terms of output ability. Again, you are looking at upgrading the wrong things here.

Well I am considering adding 4 more CVR 12"s and another Massive p1500.1 amp to my Merc. Unfortunally, I will have to switch to a sealed enclosure instead of ported. Will I still be noticeably louder with double the cone area and power with a sealed box? I dont want to run a wall, but I can get about 10 cubes out of my trunk before sub displacement. Still not enough for them sealed im sure, but its all I got. What would you guys suggest? This setup, or 4 CVX 12s in a proper ported box on 3000 RMS? Gonna be running 1 extra Batt for now, but I know it wont be enough. You guys decide for me! I want to be breakin a 140+ in the trunk.
I've done a 143+ Street Beat average on 1400 watts with a single DD 9510 in the trunk of my Saleen......More isn't always better.....

i say you upgrade your electrical, sound deaden, box, power... in that order... if you still arent satisfied then you should prolly think about gettin better subs... i would rather have 2-4 very good subs ported than 8 mediocore subs sealed

but thats just me

Give me the equipment and I'll do it for you. It is not hard at all to break a 140 in the kick.
