6x9 3 ways - Which one to use.

I am looking for help here. I am new to car audio and have been looking around.

I started years ago buildin my system but am stepping back now realizing I am doing it all wrong and wanted to hopefully start over somewhat fresh here.

I am going to keep my deck (which sucks.. but will do for now until I replace it.) And my current amps. MTX Thunder 1004, (4 channel amp), and the MXA 6001 D for my sub.

Here is what I am looking to do. I want to replace the 6x9's The 1004 at 4ohm runs at 90w RMS at 12v and appx 125w RMS at 14.4v. My alternator has been tested recently and is putting out roughly 13.2v. (not sure if this actually matters or not but thought I would supply the info.)

My question is. For the AMP I have (the 1004) which set of 6x9's would be the best for the rear. Money is not an object here. I just want some good rears. Once they are done.. I'll start on the fronts and go from there.

Any help for this neophyte would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Normally you would start in the front and not be concerned about the rear fill to much. The front sound stage is the most important in your stereo.

But as far as speakers to use. 6x9's will not be as good of a choice as 6.5's. Switching to 6.5's will be your best option. And 3way speakers are a marketing gimmick. A 2way is plenty enough for a speaker. You gain zero advantage from purchasing a 3way.

So just pick up some decent 6.5's for the rear and focus more on your front stage.

Well so you know the front has some Infinity 6.5 component's. Its the reference series. And though good there is better. And I do want something to replace these as well.

So maybe I should re-ask my original question as such. Given the 4 channel amp what would be a good set of components for the front, and what would be something good for the rear?

Would like some mfg brands and models that people believe would help deliver the best sound for my situation.

The infinity's have cross overs in the door as well.

Thanks again.

^ Nice i'm in San Jose, we're close to each other //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif . Hahaha.

anyways as for 6x9s, if you read enough a rear fill is not too popular around here and for good reason. Not only that 6x9s are not popular for a rear fill because an oval shaped speaker doesn't reproduce music better than a round shape speaker. So if rear fill is a must (i dont suggest it), then just get a cheap set of coaxials. Something between $50-$100 set of coaxials should be just fine.

I have no problem switching my rears to 6.5's. And am open to that. But I would still like some input on which brands people think sound best and would work with the AMP I have.

Some feedback on mfg's, models, etc would be great. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also being as my fronts are 6.5 with the 1" tweet components with crossover how can I improve the volume from them. The speakers sit low in the door and forward. It seems I never really seem to hear much come from these speakers. Or at least from the the 6.5's. I do tend to hear the high's from the tweets but none of the mid.

So all around now. What would someone recommend for 6.5's in the rear, (Type, mfg, model.), as well as for the front.

Thanks

Paul

sound is round //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

But yeah, I've never had any luck getting any midrange volume from Infinity components. I'd keep the tweeter and replace it with maybe a SEAS mid http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=2874658.7899&pid=1037

Just my 2cents though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

Oh, and ditch the 6x9 idea. I personally don't even like using rear fill, but if its a must look up find something cheap.

I just wanted to add that a rear-fill makes a huge difference in SUV's. I know from experience, and I even have a set of Boston Z6's up front in kick panels. Rear fills in SUV's gives a fuller sound.

I wanna thank all of you for you ideas.

As I have read on through some of the articles I have definately dropped the 6x9 idea. And am now looking at either Kappa Perfect compents or Focal's K2 Power 165 K2P.

Which is the better? (Here again money is not an object..) Secondly, would it be wrong to put these Focal's in both the front and rear? Is there some disadvantage to this?

I want descent equal sound from both front and rear. And I have noticed in the past my front as shall we say lacked and sort of volume.

Anyways, thanks again, thanks for all your input.

p.s guys.. in all of this I am trying to get descent speakers that will support 90w RMS per channel that my amp puts out. So I am looking for speakers that can handle the load and not pop. Thats why I am looking at top of line high end speakers, ones that can take it and know how to use it.

And yes once again.. please note.. I am going 6 1/2" speakers for the rear.. as well as the front.. I just need some suggestion on some top of the line brands as I really dont know which brands models are the best.

So right now I am looking at Infinty Kappa Perfect, Focal K2, and was thinking about MB Quart as well.

Thanks!

I own a minivan with DLS Iridium 8" 3ways up front, with a pair of RE8's in the rear. I've experiemented with rear fill, and there was no point. Maybe an SUV is different from an empty toyota sienna?

hahha. yea this is true. Actually i've had my system in for about 3 months and haven't really stepped into a car with a rear fill. Then i rode in my friends car that had a rear fill and i was literally pissed off in my head. i couldn't stand it. I just wanted to slap the music that was coming from behind me.
