$600 budget... can anyone throw out options for me?

another question.. i have the stock bose speakers in my car.. are those gonna be up to par with everything else im gonna have with it? my friend has 2 12" kickers in his alero with crappy no brand stock speakers and the bass pretty much overpowers everything..

99 pontiac grand prix gtp
One of the biggest thing when installing an amp is finding a spot to drill a hole thro the firewall. Off hand am not sure how bad it would be on that car. I know my mid 90's pontiac wasnt to bad to drill thro.

am i gonna want a ported or sealed box for that memphis set?.. and whats the difference?

also.. how do i make it so my trunk doesnt rattle.. i hate it when ppl's trunks rattle..

The bose speakers should be pretty decent. It'll depend on how much volume you get out of them now. Can you get it to the point where it gets hard to hear others in the car without yelling? If so, they're fine
The memphis probably won't go quite as loud as the kickers, but I'd take it on sound quality any day. Especially for that price.

The trunk rattle would be a bit harder to fix. That'd involve sound deadening, insulation around the edges, to prevent the metal from hitting.

Sealed gives a better response and quality generally, ported is going to go louder and give a much better response in the frequencies the box is tuned too.

lol ya it gets pretty loud right now as it is.. so i guess trunk rattle is something im gonna have to deal with unless i wanna spend extra money to fix it?

I have my memphis sealed in 1.2 cubes each. But I also am not all for hearing me 3 blocks away. PLus these subs are best in sealed or IB installs.

The PR's are made for a lower budget good thump install. You can go sealed or ported.

Typically the difference is thus, sealed give a tighter bass but do not necessarily hit as low and are smaller.

Ported is going to give you a awesome thump at whatever the port is tuned to and are typically much larger than their sealed counterparts. So if you are tight on trunk space, with two subs, go sealed. I imagine those subs will work on anywhere from 1-1.25ish cubes sealed.

Rattle can come from many places, on my honda I get rattle frommy trunk lid, license plate, and 3rd brake light, and a small amount in the deck.

For the trunk lid and license plate, I just got some stick on weather stripping to put on it, it worked.

The brake light, well I needed to do a gasket replacement, and voila.

With rattle, just wait until you got your system nice and tuned and then see what rattles. Liek someone else said, others on here have that car and can probably lead you to the main problem areas.

99grandprixgt is a real helpful guy and can prob give you some advice.

Pretty much. However, you will only hear from outside the car. You will only hear the bass response generally from inside the car. And it's mostly extra work, and you'd need to do searching around on the best ways to do it. Not too much money, but quite a bit of extra work.

Also, I'll just correct one thing - sealed goes lower, but it won't be nearly as loud lower. Relatively, ofc, it'll still get a decent response imo. That's due to the frequencies below the boxes tuning frequency.

i need 2 12" subs, an amp, deck, wiring kit, box...
i drive a 99 pontiac grand prix gtp.. came with Bose speakers stock..

i know $600 isnt a lot to spend but this will the first investment i make into car audio and am just trying to get a feel for this stuff.. i dont need anything that will shake neighborhoods..
