There are several different reasons.why would you???
1)Dolby Digital/DTS. 5.1 or 6.1 sound would require 6 and 7 channels respectively.
2)Other than basic setups. Examples of this could be front and rear mid/tweet (four channels) and then two higher power channels for a midbass driver, active crossovers for all speakers, etc...
3)Total system amp. 4 channels for the front and rear and two larger channels for the subs (or two of the same size for a lower power sub system).
