6.5" Speakers in a 6x9" hole...

Right now I have 6x9" speakers in the rear speaker panel in my car, but I'm going to try to replace them with some 6.5" ones. I can't find a replacement panel anywhere... is there some kind of mounting plate I could buy? If not, what should I use to make one that will look decent?

I probably won't be a lot of help but I've seen Memphis Audio sell adapter plates for 6.5" speakers and tweeters together so they fit inside a 6x8 hole...you have a 6x9 but you could use the same idea and form one out of some mildly gauged sheetmetal...might be a little trouble and $$$ to buy the stuff if you don't have it already (like a holesaw, hacksaw, file)...but you'd be able to do it with a little effort...good luck man...

The way I've done this in the past is: get a piece of 1/4" MDF, or similar wood; use the 6x9 as a template and outline it on the wood; cut out the template; draw the mounting hole for the 6.5 on the template; cut it out; mount the 6.5 on the template; install in car. Not too difficult, and not too expensive. Not exactly for a show car, but effective none the less. Hope this helps!
