6.5" Dedicated Midbass. Will it Improve my SQ?

Basically just checking to see what options I have here.

I had a friend in my car today and we had to tunes cranked. And Ive got 2 sets of PG rsd 6.5 components mounted high, and there stpid loud. And Ive got the AQ 4 15's in the back, and there stupid loud. And I personally think it sounds REALLY good and clear, no distortion.

BUT, this guy knows little to nothing I thought about music and when one song he finished he said,

"your stereo sounds amazing but it was lacking mid, I couldnt hear the quitar well"

Now Im no audiophile I dont know much about music or what beats should be playing when, I just think the way I have it tuned sounds great with zero distortion. But I really couldnt tell you in a song when most instruments are playing so I really didnt notice a "missing" quitar.

I can see why he would sya Im lacking midbass though, I have my RSD's crossed @ 100hz and eq anything from 63-125 is turned way down, becaue I didnt think they personally sounded great with those on level with everything else.

I still have 2 6.5" holes in my oem door locations in the front, was curious if maybe thee was a driver that might help make my music sound better? I only have a 4 chanel right now but Im sure I could get another amp....

I personally thnk my music sounds great, but I think its just cause Ive never heard better?

Worth a shot, and if I get some solid advice, I'll go for it!

Thanks guys

No right now I nothing in the doors, only a set of tweeters high up on the door panel.

Is there a way to make the "guitar" in music come alive? Hell I dont even know if he was right, but it makes sence since I have everything crossed the way to do with those frequencies turned dow and such.

I dont think I have any pics since I did it but I'll check, everyone told me not to, but it sounds amazing, and it isnt close to your head at all in my suv. and I simply bolted it to where the sunvisors went so I didnt have to hack my car at all, which is what I cared about going from 1 set of comps and then adding a second.

So I do still have the foactory door locations left, curious if my music can be improved anymore though,,,,, or if anythings even missing

those RSD have no midbass, to me atleast

the peopl who say they do must not have heard good midbass

get some CDT HD mids or up, the ID comps have great mids, I really like the mid-upper lines of focal also

deaden your doors, get new mids, give them about 150rms each

Regardless if you use midbass drivers or not it is the processing that will make or break your midbass. If the driver isn't receiving the right frequencies via the crossover then it will make no difference.

guitar frequencies aren't really in the range where you would high pass them. maybe bass guitar but not guitar.

and rsd's in the right install will have pretty good mid-bass. my ID's have more but the RSD's aren't bad for the price.

I would suggest getting a deck with active processing or getting an outboard processor. Adding a dedicated midbass will give you great sound but it can also be a nightmare to tune it right.

How exactly are your comps mounted ... to the roof? Im guessing you have them in small pods, destroying their low-end output. Car audio mids are designed to work in car doors guys... infinite baffle. Throwing them in small sealed pods destroys excursion and low frequency extension completely.

short answer, no - adding another speaker to the mix will not solve your issues.

but tell me - how can you hear distortion from speakers when you have four (im sure with a shit ton of power) fifteens in your boot? im quite certain that the cabin pressure from those fifteens on the cones of your other speakers are not helping. i honestly dont think at high volumes like you claim - that you can hear distortion in your ride. even 4 or 5 percent distortion.

there is a lot more than treble and bass in music. try turning your subs off for a week and play with the eq\xovers. oh yea - speaker placement and aiming helps A LOT too. and i highly doubt your four mids are properly aimed.
