Heroes are remembered, but legends never die
But on subs in most cases(quality built subs) that rating is there only to protect the sub. Not really saying thats all they will take. Even if a sub says 2000watts max doesnt mean much. A sub can "say" 2000watts and only have a 1.5inch voice coil, a sub with that coil wont get close to taking 2000 watts, you would be lucky to get 600 through it with out blowing.I would think that's where the different motors would come in ? I may be wrong, But I look at it as a engine in car. If it's dyno tuned and max HP would be 5500RPM pulling to 7000 would be pointless.
So theres alot of factors that i my self dont really understand that dictates power handling other then what the sub is actually rated. Most of the time you can tell what the subs all about just from the Voice coil size. A 2.5inch coil i wouldnt go over 2k watts on maybe not even 1500watts honestly but people do it anyway.
