$50,000 and an old tahoe... help me spend it

Funny how 50k looks so small in reality.

I'd have to agree though, ditch the tahoe, its been done before. By a nice classic, heck I saw a beautiful cadillac deville 2 door for only 3k in the tampa area. Little old lady deal, the thing looked immaculate inside and out. That'd be pretty different. Or grab an old benz and slam it...tons of unique cars to pimp out exist out there, just gotta find one, envision what you want and go from there.

Fix the bumper first.

And I was serious about the duramax swap. Nearly anything you do, there will be tons of others just like it. There are very few duramax swapped tahoes. All depends on goals here though. I'm assuming since you're not wanting to wall it you don't want to drop $50k on just audio either. If you're even serious about spending any money on it at all, that is.

How about sell the Tahoe and buy some old classic car or suv to customize, at least that way you have something that's worth 50k when you're done. Just a thought. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
im actually going to look at a 66 continental this weekend, but thats independent of this project //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif its not an either or, great suggestion though!

26" billets, 6.2l swap, drop, HD front end, Rioja red interior, DD subs and amps for that "wow he got money" factor. a wilwood big brake kit. thats easy around $25,000.
whats rioja red? I should have noted im painting the truck still night pearl (a blue). wemt and put a deposit down on the paint job today.

2 DDZs on 10k
Oh wait someone already did that in a Tahoe

Duramax swap it and do a C pillar
no walls //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Let see pic of her how she sits.
But not much room behind the 3rd row. I'd do two zv4 12s on a big amp like ab 1100.1/cf 8k/ TFE
ya, I did some prelim measurments, and it looks like the 3rd row must go to have any kind of room //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ph well, cest la vie

I disagree with the swap ideas, mainly because of alt brackets.
For the duramax, the most he could run is dual alts, iirc.

I'm guessing it's got a 5.3 stock and he could get a quad bracket like I ordered.

Uhhhhhh... no.

Why do all focal? Could do so much more with that much money.

If I had that budget, I say first step is get a quad alt bracket. Next get three HO alternators. Excessive is probably the best value, and he might cut you a deal on three.

For batteries, go to the local shop and see if they'll cut you a deal on a bunch of generic "rebadged" group 31 AGM's

A spool of welding cable will leave you more money for other things, compared to "car audio" labeled wire.

For amps, I'd say two Twisted Sounds 8.5k's or find a pair of used amps like M4a's, NS's, Ampere TFE's, DC 9k/10k's, ect.

For subs if you're limited on space, a couple of beefy 4" coil monsters like Sundown "Team" series or possibly three 3" coil subs like Nightshades, Zv4's, or the obvious DD Z's if you want to go all out. There will be lots of headroom with that much amplifier power, and you can always add more subs later if you want more output.

For mids/highs, I like Pro Audio drivers and bullet tweeters. They're not for everyone. Listen to different types of setups and find what you prefer before shelling out money on something you can't stand.

There's a DC 175.4 on here reasonably priced, iirc.

That's what I'd do if I could do it all over again
Nice location, lol
some great ideas, thanks! ive already ordered a dual alt bracket, but I could order a quad if necessary, did you prder from nate at excessive? yes, it is the 5.3 liter, and I'll likelykeep it, although I was thinking of supercharging it, if I can find a good kit! I do like focal (and actually ive got 2 old sets of utopia be in my storage shed, but id like to try something different this time, I'll try and find some good comps pr pro audio sets to audition! qhat is the sundown "team woofer"? im a bit out of the loop on current gear (ive been collecting vintage for a while) where can I find twisted sounds stuff?

ive ordered a new bumper, escalade roof rack, and rear pillars, as well as a roll pan to be installed when painted! im not super into a diesel swap, but I would LOVE to see it done. do you know of any build logs out there for that?

maybe if I get bored this weekend ill pull out some more $ and see if 100k looks any larger :p at any rate, im trying to get in contact with a guy on cl noq about a 66 continental sedan hes got listed, so ill do that too. the two projects will happen independent of each other, so its not an either or:)

Theres a company that used to do them and put them on YouTube. DuraBurb maybe? Something like that.

You could do a quad bracket from DC Power and a Magnuson TVS1900/2300 supercharger... That would be a long *** belt though. You can get alts large enough now that more than 2 is pretty much overkill unless you're running a stupid amount of power so you should be fine with the dual bracket you ordered.

And it needs some soundrive subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

As far as things you can do performance wise to tahoes...

Stage 1: CAI (skip if you're gonna do SC), tune, maybe gears. 05+ will already have the e-fans

Stage 2: Cam, headers, stall converter, possibly a 07+ intake manifold (little less low end power, lot more top end)

Stage 3: ***** (4L60e is a turd), Supercharger, other more expensive things like that

As far as cosmetics go the possibilities are endless.

Escalade or smooth vent covers (maybe that's what you meant by pillars?)

Lift/lower

Wheels/tires

LED taillights

Headlights (most people opt for smoked or completely clear vs stock)

So on and so forth..

I just don't get why you'd want to do a duramax swap.

Yes, it would be unique. If he doesn't do any towing and already has a dual bracket for the 5.3, it wouldn't make sense.

Don't get me wrong, I love duramax's. One of my buddies has one in his 06 Silverado. If it was a truck and he wasn't going crazy with audio, I think it'd be sweet.

No problem! I'm just typing up what I wish I would have done instead. Hind sight is 20/20. I have not ordered from Nate at Excessive, but I know his prices are good and I know of people who are happy with his products. I have two Singer HO alternators on my truck right now. They cost quite a bit more. My 370 hairpin was $750 and my 320 small case hairpin was $579. I could've gotten more for my money with Excessive. If you do supercharge it, you'll have a heck of a time trying to find a serpentine belt that'll fit right. You'll have the supercharger and dual alt bracket to think about. Pro audio mids/highs are loud and clear, but may be too bright or harsh for people. It takes less drivers to get loud though, and they are very efficient. I have Sundown Neopro 8" mids and Crescendo FT-1 bullet tweeters. I like them a lot!

Below I'll post a pic of the "Team" series sub. Also, B2 audio has 5" coil subs. If you do get two big amps and want to only run two subs because of space, those B2 subs will handle the power

I did mean vent covers, sorry for mislabeling them!

I am ordering a 2/4 drop tomorrow, going static, not interested in air (had it before, blech). Have heard good things about helper bags though.

On headlights- the tahoe forums ive been on seem to really like depo headlights. Do you have any experiences with them? The depo products ive used in the past have been horrid,so its interesting to hear theyre so well liked!

I already have 26" rims on the way. Truck is 2wd, so not gonna rwise it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Tell me bout sounddrive subs.

I just don't get why you'd want to do a duramax swap.

Hmm.. Thas a bigass woofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i like! Ive seen singersnare popular, do they perform? I have used (and liked) excessive. He quoted me 400 for a dual alt bracket, so im scared to see what quad would cost though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Do you think the belt would be longer with 2 alts and a supercharger, than with 4 alts??i really appriciate the help btw:)
