5 x 7's have more bass than 6's

Yep, just make a MDF spacer that'll cover the entire hole, and just mount your 6.5" or whatever sized mid to that baffle.
this is a joyous day now that I can have what I really want //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I listened to 5 x 7's , 6's, and 6.5's and the 5 x 7's deifinitely kicked out more bass. So why do so many of you say they don't ??

5x7 = Pi(2.5)(3.5) = 27.475 Cone Area

6" = Pi(3)^2 = 28.26 Cone Area

Because people have hard on's for cone area around here.

But, like EVERYTHING, it depends on the application, installation, quality of the driver, design of the driver, amount of power it's seeing, etc.

I've seen some 3" drivers that have midbass that drops my jaw, and I've seen 6.5"s that make my farts sound like an Opera.

But as previous posts have stated, there are a lot more options when going with the regular 6.5" drivers... there are hundreds of component sets to pick from in the 6.5" range... however there are very few (that I've seen) that are oval... in fact, I've only seen Coaxial ovals... but I never looked for oval comps.

You say you drive an 05 taurus?
Not that it makes any real difference. But Im pretty sure all ford taurus's have 6x8 sized speakers. Not 5x7
yep, they havn't changed. except the if you have a 2004-2006 taurus the passenger airbag module is built into the factory headunit assembly which means up until last year you could not change out the deck with out killing the passenger airbag and voiding the warranty. metra finally made a kit that re-routes the sensor but at 120 bucks and no garuntees

Does your taurus have separate tweeters?

Im sure you could get a cheap 6.5 component set and mount the tweeters in the sails.

Will give you better imaging that way.

no tweets,and I'm not as picky about it as others as far as the highs. I'm satisfied with what some of the good coaxials will do, like references or bostons. plus I don't know how long I'm keeping this car. my next car I will go all out with some components and 2 subs.

Im sure those image dynamics mentioned earlier would be nice. And I can tell you that the 6822cfs sound great too considering I ride with them everyday.
i heard the 6822cfs today at circuit city and they sounded pretty nice. I'm going to another place tomarrow to listen to the jl audio 5 x 7's , But I've gotta listen before I buy.
