5 x 7's have more bass than 6's

I listened to 5 x 7's , 6's, and 6.5's and the 5 x 7's deifinitely kicked out more bass. So why do so many of you say they don't ??

Who says they dont?

I think it depends on how the speaker is made really.

My 6x8s sound decent.

And I assume these were in proper installations, with deadened doors, MDF rings, modelling clay, all holes sealed, proper amplifier power, etc?

The problem is, there are so much more choices available for quality speakers in "round" sizes that it's really not worth dealing with ovals unless price is the #1 concern.

Shit. my 4x6's kicked the shit out of my componets in the midbass dept and that with the 4x6's running of HU power.

Needless to say I was a bit sad.

I've got an 05 ford taurus and 5 x 7 is all you can fit in the doors with out major surgery. I could go 5.25 with a bracket but I didn't want to sacrifice the loss off bass, although sq would be better.

If you want bass, get a sub, not a 5x7.

I think you could easily fit a 6.5 in your door if you just use a drimmel or a jigsaw to cut some of the metal out of the skinny section of the speaker hole. I have stock 6x9's and all I needed was a little MDF spacer, so I'm sure you could do it if you don't mind a little cutting...

what do you do about filling in the edges? I'm sure there would be a gap at the horizontal edges

Just make a MDF spacer that'll fit nicely all the way around.

guess I ought to pull my door panel off and see what can be done. I've got a high power dremel and a jig saw so this could be fun
