6.5s can fit easly with no modification to the door //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
can't afford more than $150 a pair and want to stay coaxial, and I want to hear jl audio's before I buy anything just to satisfy my curiosity. Infinity reference sounded decent, boston was okay too but I need to hear em firstAre you just going for a set of components, coaxials, or are you running active?
I had to use a 3/4" spacer where my 6x9's used to go...I assume it'd be harder with stock 5x7's.6.5s can fit easly with no modification to the door //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
I'm a little apprehensive about buying stuff I can't hear first especially after people said kappas were the best and I ended up not liking them and liked the ref's better.Get the image dynamics I recommended in ur other thread. My friend can do them for $85 shipped. Woofersetc.com wants $129.
I didn't have any issues with the depth, but the hole just wasn't big enough for my RS180's. But you're right, a MDF space by itself may work...it really depends on how quickly the basket goes inwards towards the magnet.the space size depends on the depth but a simple properly mdf baffle will cover the hole and have space for the mounting diameter of the average 6.5" woofer...ive done it plenty of times
Meh, they have an overly large flange on them(which I hate...feel like I'm getting robbed of midbass)...they have the pretty much the same cone area as a 6.5.not to mention the rs180s are 7"
What have you done to the door?I've got an 05 ford taurus and 5 x 7 is all you can fit in the doors with out major surgery. I could go 5.25 with a bracket but I didn't want to sacrifice the loss off bass, although sq would be better.
i was unaware you still had a keyboard havent seen you in a whileWhat have you done to the door?
'Dre's right, 6.5's will fit without any modifications, but even a 5.25" will extend down to the subbass range given proper installation.
Once you've heard it done, the "loss of bass" argument really doesn't hold any water //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I havn't done anything yet, but i read on polk audio's website that an adapter bracket is available to convert from 5 x 7 to 5.25. I've got the tools to make the modifications too if need be but i'm debating on how much money and effort I want to put into it. I would definitely rather have 6.5's as they do sound betterWhat have you done to the door?

I installed 6x8 speakers in my 97 ford taurus. You say 6.5's will fit? As in, I would just have to drill my own screw holes and it would work? No mdf baffle or anything? What have you done to the door?
