i wonder if the ib setup has a different impedence rise than a ported box... hence the issues....

I'm assuming this, and his guess at "600w" is comparing IB to what I would assume 600w at a sealed or ported box.

IB is not nearly as loud as a box so you could just get to a point where the amp clips too much and shuts off

How much quality control do you think AP has? Im sure not every one of there amps are the same. Next time dont listen to a bunch of people on a forum cause everybodys experiance will be different. Next time just go with what you know works. And stop trying before you pop it

you need to at the very least set your gain with a dmm.

27v is where you need to be.

Smaller boxes tend to have greater rise.

I had 3 r's in a spec sealed box wired to .67 on my 1ohm stable a2400db and the rise ended up around 1.2~ iirc. Every application will be diff for rise.

Exactly, dont listen to a bunch of people about sundown, dc, etc.. Try it and if doesnt perform like you would like then it must be junk

personally I have ran a pair of ap1500 at .5 daily without any issue at all

You are clipping

1: stop running that amp at .5ohms

2: use a DMM to at least get some relative voltage checks on everything.

3: retry amp at a different load.

Im absolutely sure that I was NOT clipping the amp, the gain is set @ about 10% and the volume at "reasonable" level.

when it comes to abusing subpar equipment, it shouldnt be assumed that the user knows what they are doing by telling them that its ok to abuse a product. APs are about the worst amp that is accepted as "being able to do rated power"...you will not find a worse amp that is commonly accepted as at least decent...

OP, you need to identify weak areas in your install or potential problem areas. Plenty of people have ran that amp at .5, however, it also wouldnt hurt to be running something a little bit stouter below 1ohm. DD isntantly comes to mind, although pricey. The older Cresendos were warrantied down to .5, and although new models are no longer warrantied to .5, its actually supposed to be a stouter board. I run a 2k at .5 daily on marginal electrical and it has never protected

You could have picked up a used ap3000 for around 250. if your on a budget and you need that kind of power at two ohms.

That isn't the only way to clip an amp. Amps are made for operations at certain volt/resistance parameters, pushing them outside of these parameters will cause clipping. I've seen amps with input voltage issues (not too low voltage from electric, but too high from preouts) clipping at 10% gain. You need to go through your settings again, One reason you are clipping may very well have to do with your "reasonable volume" operating the amp at .5 ohms. I highly recommend finding a volume where the amp operates with reglated voltage for your needs at around 60% gain and trying that. I also recommend changing your ohm load to a higher one and playing around with those two things to see if it helps. You need to change settings and wiring options to find something that works for you, assuming based of what other people have told you is not the way to go, it can help you get an idea of what worked for them. But you should never assume because they said so that that is the truth and everything else is moot.

Not to be a jerk really I'm trying to help but you cannot be abesolutly sure unless you had an O-scope on that amp.

If you have a multimeter I'd plug that into a channel on the amp and run tests at different volumes you may just find out that you can get the proper output voltage on that amp with a higher resistance load.
