5 Channel Rca's

I just picked up a set of 5 channels rca and noticed that there are five not six cables. When I hook this up to my sub amp will it matter whether I use the right or left? I know that the sound is mono, so I don't need two inputs, but should it make a difference whether I use right or left?

I figure this means I'll have to reset my gains though right?

yea I think your voltage is going to be reduced in half

Yeah that's what i figured. Do you guys think I should just throw my old rca's back in. I have a dmm so setting the gains isn't a problem, I'm just thinking that this may be a somewhat inefficient way of wiring this.
