5 channel amp recommendations under $400

Didn't mean to start a bunch of ****, Amp should be here by Monday and I will have it installed ASAP. Just for precautionary measures I already built a raised aluminum perforated platform with a small fan attached to a relay for the amp to sit on (better than carpet) also installing another small fan to flow horizontally (might be overkill but cheap insurance and it wont be seen anyway.) Read a few reviews that said these get hot, but that is expected out of a A/B amp. Some of you guys have to look at the TITLE of this post before responding. I had a $400 ceiling. I don't plan on building a competition system, look at the thread starter to see what I'm driving with it. Before I ever posted, I wanted to buy a JL xd 700.5 or 1000.5 but can't shell out the cash. I took the advice Boomin' Tahoe gave me, did my own research on the amp and made a decision. Right or wrong it was my call and my money. If I don't like it, vendor will return for credit and I will try another brand. Will post again with pics and review after install, but for now I am pretty confident in my purchase.
You did good. Only thing the XDs have going for them is size. Until you get over the $500 mark they are all about the same. Than the $1000 mark they start getting nice but it's mostly just the quality of the product and power that gets up there.

Used to love older PPI stuff, but haven't heard too much good lately, as far as powerbass, have a friend who has had lots of probs. Looking at the Cerwin Vega V1100.5 amp. RMS @4ohms 80x4 / 350 x 1. About the closest I've found on what I need power wise. THD is pretty low as well. Can't find any reviews or info other than Cv's website all I know is that they are a sister co. of Diamond Audio and can't find much info on them. Jet.com $277.09 with new user discount. Anybody have any thoughts before I pull the trigger?
I see it's late to the discussion, but that and the entire 2015-2016 Cerwin Vega "Vega" line is pretty outstanding. You would really like the 5 channel amplifier.

My apology to you. I try to help people out within their budget. And someone always has to come in and **** on your thread. I really can't stand that and it's really getting old. I saw the thread, made a suggestion and you practically took my advice right away. Good news indeed. Is there a better 5 ch amp out there?? Who knows. But there's several to choose from and it comes down to the buyer as to which one based on budget to get.

I'm also interested where you read that the NX5 get hot? I don't ever recall mine getting past warm. Unless they had it in a trunk of a car, which holds in heat, or they could have ran the amp into a below recommended ohm load which will heat up the amp fast quicker and possibly blow it.

Thank you for a little positive feedback.

In my eyes its not you that needs to apologize, you are the one who gave me some sound advice and I appreciate it. I was looking back at some past reviews on the amp (think they were from 2011ish, and the only negative I saw was a few people said they got hot. But the fact of the matter is I plan on pushing 300 watts at 2 ohms (originally thought my sub was the 4 ohm model but meter told me otherwise) out of the supposed 400 x 1 for the sub, and 100 watts at 4 ohms out of the supposed 120 x 4 for the components. So I will not be maxing out the amp anyway. Just decided to throw in a couple $10 fans because it will be mounted in a not so ventilated area under my back seat back against the back wall of the truck. Amp did arrive today, but the prob. is I still haven't picked up the satellites. Hope to have everything in by first of the week. Then begins the task of tuning which I haven't done in quite a few years. But that's the fun part right? Thanks again for your help.

Well, sorry for the late post, but I got called out of town and some things changed on my new install. The Cerwin Vega separates deal didn't work out so I found a 2 sets of Infinity Kappa 60.9cs (2ohm) on closeout. Pulled the trigger on those and am very happy other than the huge tweeters. Had to do some modification to my windshield pillars to fit them in, surface mounted the rear ones above the seat belt. Mid bass problems are solved. As far as the Massive NX5 amp, I totally rewired everything using none of the factory wiring. Have 0 gauge power running to a dist. block located about 3 feet from the amp. Out of that I have about 3' of 4ga. running to the amp. Ran new (6') 4ga. directly to the frame. All new speaker wires and RCA's from head unit. Have one 4" fan blowing on the amp on one side. The amp does get very hot (too hot to touch) when running at somewhat high volumes and will go into protect after about 30 mins. Lasts about 3-5 mins then turns back on. Today, I am installing another 4" fan to blow on another side and a small 3" fan pulling exhaust away. I think my problem is the spot that I have it mounted, under the back seat back tucked up behind the under seat sub box. With the seat down it is a very small area and does not get much air space. I know this is a class A/B amp and will get hotter, but my previous JVC class D was doing the same thing. Hopefully the 3 fan system will solve my problems, if not, I'm going to have to re-think my configuration and install amp somewhere else. Amp sounds great, not maxing out gains, and it is more than loud enough. All filters on amp are off and I am controlling filters through head unit (Avic) only. I am very pleased with the whole set-up, just gotta get this amp cooled down somehow. Wish I had the room to mount a side discharge 6" or 8" fan, but there just isn't the room. But with the three (computer style) fan setup, I should be flowing a lot more CFM and maybe this will solve the problem. Install them today, give me a few days to test out and I will let y'all know the outcome.

Interesting that it's getting hot. When I had mine, it never got any warmer than warm, even on a hot summer day. I had it enclosed in a mdf custom made enclosure to hide the amp wiring and a plexi top to show off the top of the amp. Glad you like it tho. I didn't have a single fan on the NX5 when I had it.

I have it's little brother, the NX3 which is 2 ch less than the NX5. Same size overall, just a bit shorter.....man is it small!!

Post up pics of install if you can.

I came close to getting the NX3 for my Stingray ...That Im currently working on system in to fit in the storage pocket in the center behind the front seats ...but ended up going with a JL mini 3 ch ...I guess I should take pics for my newest build log ...

Massive tried to put two things together that don't work -- a lot of a/b power and small size. And without ANY heat dissipating features in the case.

There's a reason small, powerful amps weren't available until class D.

~1200w out of a 15x5 a/b can ONLY result in extremely high heat.

The only surprise to me is that Tahoe's DIDN'T overheat.

The NX5 is discontinued. The EX5 (hybrid) has a class D sub channel.
