5.25" better than 5x7/6x8?

I've got a space for 5x7's in the back of my RX-7. Would a 5.25" be able to outshine a 5x7/6x8"? They'll be amped at 40 watts, along with the 5.5" speakers in the front that I got from madisound. For rear fill, I'd like to stay around the $100 mark, or close to it.

Yes 5.25s would be better, but I would do a slight mo, and put 6.5s instead.

there is a MUCH bigger market for 5 1/4 and 6 1/2. than 5x7/6x8

Even in the same price range? It seems the quality of 6.5's in the $100 range wouldn't really compare. To get anything of quality out of'em, you'd have to spend at least $150-$175 on a set. Does anyone have some recommendations for rear fill 6.5's in the $100 area?
