Horns in a Truck

I was wondering if anyone put horns in a truck and how they liked it. The seating position in a trcuk is a little different and I was wondering what the impact was. I finally seen some pics of the installs and it looks like my trucks dash is a little to low for good imaging.

Unless it's an extended cab I wouldn't do it. I had a set installed in my 97 S-10 extended cab years ago and they sounded incredible, but standard cabs are just too restrictive...

It is an extended cab, I am just worried that the bottom of the dash is too low . It is like below the knees. I drive an 01.

How well the horns work really comes down to how much work you're willing to put into it.

2001 Chevy S-10 extended cab.

I am willing to buy an eq (I figure I would need one for going active anyway). I say a few 7 band. It would need to be 1/2 DIN or so but I have no idea where to mount it.

You will need a lot more than 7 bands of EQ. Check on eBay for an Alesis MEQ230. They are cheap and work great! And like the other poster said, they'll sound excellent if you put the time into them. If you don't want to put that much effort into it, try building some pods for the top of your dash. S-10's are pretty easy to tune and dash speakers sound real good if positioned right. haha, horns on the dash, yeah, you wont' see that much. Horns IN the dash, well you dont' see that often either, but at least that's been done.. Couple of good things too look for in a vehicle you want to put horns in it. First off, is the dash symetrical, or even close? Do you have a large center console, are the 2 seating positions seperated below the dash? Is there a heater in the way down below th dash, or a hole in the underside of the dash?

I meant install some traditional speakers in a pod on the dash, not horns. Horns need lots of tuning to get right, if you don't want multiple amps and 60 bands of EQ traditional speakers migt work better for you.

I would avoid Alesis. For one, you would have to mod it to 12V since it's a pro audio piece. Second, it's a wide Q (and possibly not constant Q either, can't remember off hand), which makes tuning it more difficult. IF you wanted to go the Pro Audio route, there are much better options. There are plenty of great 12V options aswell......

I'm gonna try and put horns in mine also. I got a 2001 GMC sonoma. I havn't really measured anything yet, so I'm just sorta looking around and planning. If it does happen it won't be for a while.

Let me know if you can fit them though. I'm worried about the heater box on the passenger side.
