4th order pointless after the advent of SPL drivers?

It seems most people believe in the go big or go home theory with 4ths. Like if you had 6 15s and 20k, of course it'll be loud. Most won't do that in a regular wall thou.

But I have the pleasure of living a couple of hours from team nemesis, and they have some monstrous 4ths

Hell yes they do.

The only issue I have with 4ths... If you cant tweak, rebuild it because of the lack of resources then you will never get the full effect. They take a lot of time and work with big reward. Everything has to be right and that never happens the first time, if they are to far off you're going to lose subs fast

they arent just for lows... shrink that rear chamber and do a 5:1 ratio and you can burp all day. super efficient, super high mechanical power handling. just need a strong coil. thats why people us the DDZ in ratio ******... there was a van at slamology with a large ratio 4th with 2 18s and im pretty sure it was 60s capable
Never said they were JUST for lows, said that's why I think they're so popular currently. Most guys want to play C&S stuff and throw a ton of power at their subs. Sealed chamber helps them to do that. As you shrink chamber/go up on ratio passband shrinks and you end up being able to demo ONE song or burp. But yes you can get hella loud doing that.

Which vehicle with 2 18's? Not sure if I heard that one. Did you hear the maroon burban with 8 15's, that's the one I just built....

sadly I couldnt go lol, but a few of my friends did, and they told me/showed me some pics. the good thing about the large ratio is the raised efficiency, but if you want to play a larger passband, throw more power at the woofers, that usually works for me. More amplitude=more pressure. Makes it so the woofers can pressurize the front on the low lows.

the best thing to do is get some knowledge, and start off on the right foot. that way you wont have much tweaking to do. Really the only way you will lose woofers is if you have too small of a rear chamber and they dont cool (ridiculously small) or if you use a common chamber and one of the woofers blows, the other could be damaged. Fourth orders are very forgiving though, as long as you arent stupid with it, you will be just fine.
