40 Hz Too High?

It will still be loud, like I said earlier you will get like a 3 or 4 db boost on certain freq if you tune high but you lose a couple of db's on the low end. 32 hz is where you should tune those subs if you ask me.

I personally like the sound of 30-32Hz better than anything, but I've never been concerned with being extremly loud. Tuning near 40 you really won't lose my quality in the majority of your rap music. There are a few songs that you'll notice the steep roll-off at the low end, but all in all it won't be too bad.

I would say to mess with box sizes a bit and see what you want to give up. Tuning a box to 30Hz takes quite a bit more port length (ie gross volume) than tuning a box to 40Hz. I would figure out what kind of space you have to deal with, then mess with the numbers a little bit and see if you can even afford to tune low like 32, or if you're only option will be to tune high.

Ok so I emailed KICKER again with my concerns and this was the reply:

The tuning of 12's between 37 and 40 is a great range. Most music has

the main amount of bass between 40 and 50 hertz. The woofers in those

enclosures will still play down to 25 hertz and up to 100 hertz. Our

favorite box for the CVR12's is the street bass box. We still recommend you

build each chamber (the woofers should be in separate chambers) to 2.82

cubic feet with a port opening of 33 square inches and a port length of

16.5" for each chamber.

That comes out to 2.5 net for each woofer and tuned round 40....
