40 Hz Too High?

Hey fellas. What's going on?

Alright, heres the deal. I picked up another CVR, so I am now in the process of deciding what I want to do with the new box for the 2 CVRs.

This setup is going to be a pure daily driver, no competing or anything. I listen to all rap or hip-hop.

Now, I emailed Kicker and asked what they thought the best daily driver box would be and they sent me some specs that ended up being tuned to around 40 hz. I thought 40 hz is pretty high for daily driver tuning. I PM'd Polecat and he said that 40 hz would be good and that I wouldn't lose much low end and that it would get loud and sound musically good.

My current box for my single CVR is 34 hz and I am just confused what to do. Is 40 hz too high or will it still be good? What do you guys think?

What size is the box going to be?

All of the kicker products I have used for my self or setup for my friends, almost all of them where tuned to around high 30's or LOW LOW 40's and those are what kicker recomended

(Comps, Comp VR's, L7's and the solo x. I never did anything with the l5's)

Well how did it sound?

Kicker recommended 2.5 cf per CVR in the email, so I may try that. 2.0 per driver would be easier to fit though.

Tuning to 40hz will put a nasty hump in the freq response which is good for SPL and anything in the mid 40's hz range. The higher you tune your box the more of a peak there will be in the response, the lower you tune the flatter the overall response which is good for daily drivers. I would tune to around 32-34 hz, if you want it louder then get bigger or better subs but I would try and keep it tuned low.

i'd say high 30's low 40's. you listen mostly to rap and hip-hop. there is only a couple songs that even get into the low 30's...
True but it still will have a peakier sound, you will gain a couple of db's but lose sound quality and balance. How often do you really need those 2 or 3 extra db's in daily driving.

Im still undecided as what to do...

2.0 cf per driver or 2.5 cf like kicker said in the email....

Stick at like 34hz or go anywhere else in the range up to 40hz...
