40.1 can't handle high RCA voltage?

I keep hearing stuff about 40.1 amps not handling high RCA voltage such as 8v....

potential words were used such as... amp go "poof"

and it doesnt handle the high voltage

anyone have any input?

i personally think its outrageous, and for nick and IA to make an amp that cant handle 8v rms through RCA's would be embarresing....

I know a guy with a Crown Vic running one off an Eclipse CD7200 which has a rated 8V pre out and its worked fine for over a year now.

IA makes great amps and I just don't see that being the case

just because its rated at 8 v doesnt mean its really doing that. he should do voltage tests on the rca's and find out for sure what the unit is putting out.

its not a matter of weather or not its actually doing it.... its a matter of can the amp handle it

Know a guy in Texas that ran a 40.1 w/ an alpine Hu and a line-driver.

He killed 3 amps before he got any big #'s.

I saw him fry 2 at shows, and that was at 1ohm DCR.

Smoked the input stage.

I have spoken to quite a few people, many use ~2-3v input for 40's.

the sensitivity of the 20.1 is up to 6v. I'm guessing the 40.1 is the same.

If an 8v preout is a problem for that then you have a very poor design of the input stage.

It shouldn't be happening.
