4 ohm vs 1ohm on subs

They will…when technology catches up and they superate all the challenges.

Smarter designers tend to use all the technology at their disposition to make the best of their amps…but there are still significant challenges to class D design.

For now, check the specs I told you about (above) in similarly priced amps. You will see measurable differences. I.E. look up the damping factor in the PDX 4.100 & similarly priced JL 300/4. At 2 ohms you bet that the 35+ of the PDX will sound different than the 100ish of the JL. Many 4 ohm speakers drop that low.

I like class D amps. My Alto Mobile sounds very clear to my ears. Love those mids. Down below …ehhh! Why? Switching noise has to be filtered so a cap is placed between the output transistor and the speaker; do you really think that it won’t make a difference? Think on what happens when you used too small of a cable on your sub… (clue: I=V/R).

Think of all the specs that aren't published that have a significant effect on sound. (Ever wonder why RF does not pubish their channel separation figures?). An electric car with a Hemi recording under the hood will still feel different...even if it has the same horsepower.

Guys, keep playing and comparing stuff. Don’t believe anything that you read until you test it; several times and under different circumstances. Learn all you can and approach things with an open mind. If you hear something in you garage and people tell you are crazy, you are in great company: Galileo, Columbus, Tesla (certifiable also)…

TRY BOTH AMPS AND TELL US WHAT YOU HEARD! (after you sell the one that you didn’t like/or the more expensive one if both sounded identically…).

My wife can tell that full range class D amps sound a little funky in the top. I cannot. At the Boston Children's Museum there is a station that measures your frequency hearing....mine started fading at 19 khz, she could still hear above 20khz. I could hear as low as 20 but she couldn't pickup anything until 22hz...that could be where the difference is.
most women have better hearing than men. if my wife cared about car audio i'd get her to tune my stuff.
