1 Solo X, it has a slight disadvantage in total cone area, but the fact that it's only 1 driver, as opposed to 4, makes for less of a mess, and it's probably gonna be a little more efficient.

You may want to re-think this statement.

L7 10 = 439 cm^2 of Sd, so (4) * 439 = 1756 cm^2 of Sd or cone area

Solo X 18 = 1426 cm^2 of Sd or cone area

1756 cm^2 > 1426 cm^2

not enought to even hear it

It doesn't matter to me what my ears hear, it's all about the numbers on the meter. Could possibly be the difference between winning and not winning. Plus, even though the Solo X has a tremendous motor structure, there is certainly something to be said for having 4 motors vs. 1 when it comes to SPL. I'm not trying to talk myself out of a single solo X, but I haven't seen any real evidence that supports that it would beat (4) L7 10's.

i rather have the least amount of subs so i can put them in bigger boxes vs having a bunch of subs and putting them in small boxes

tommy 1 type r 10..has beat out setups that had more than 2 subs

Yeah, I do realize that TommyK has produced a very admirable number using (1) 10 and I'm not disputing that I can't get 1 sub loud vs. 4, I just think the additional motor force and 300 cm^2 of cone area the L7's provide will give me a little more edge to hit a high number.

I will definitely tell you that bigger boxes don't always translate into higher numbers on the meter. I had an MT 18 that hit better numbers in a 6 cube net enclosure than in an 11 cube net enclosure. Small boxes have their place in that you can run more wattage to your subs with less risk than with a big box.
