Numbers are always nice, but mostly just for daily cruising around and would go on the meter if I went to more shows - but I am not strictly competing. Most likely the 4 12's would be way louder but gonna have to use up more room and build a new custom box. Whereas you already have the 2 15's in a custom made box already. If you choose to go with the 4 12's, I would go with D2 coils so you can run at 1 ohm. You have plenty of power to run and you don't wanna stress out your amp anymore than it should. Unless you're competing and trying to squeeze out as much DB's as possible then that's different. But for daily, I would stick with 1 ohm. Less likely to have problems. Do you want to get louder on music? Do you wanna compete? both?
I just think it's not necessary to go down to .5 ohms if you already have plenty of power. You can still be loud with 1 ohm because you're already going up in cone area. They're only HDS212's so thermally speaking, you can give them around 600w-1000w each and that should be plenty. No need to squeeze more power into it and possibly burn up your coils. Less stress on your amp and electrical too. You will probably see a better number on the meter regardless. Technically you can run .5 if you're careful and know you're doing though. It just creates more heat everywhere, which isn't a good thing. That is your choice to make. If you're only competing here and there for fun, then personally I wouldn't risk it.Numbers are always nice, but mostly just for daily cruising around and would go on the meter if I went to more shows - but I am not strictly competing.
In the past year I have only been to 2 shows. I am trying to figure if I should do that or spend that on two good 15's but then I'd need more power which I couldn't afford unless I went Brazilian.I just think it's not necessary to go down to .5 ohms if you already have plenty of power. Switching out your 15's for another pair of 15's isn't gonna yield you much difference in output unless you're going with more power. Cone area is a cheaper alternative to getting louder without having to upgrade your power, but will require more space. You're gonna have to double your power to even hear a true difference anyway. Too expensive. How much are you looking to spend on your next upgrade? Upgrading subs, amp, and electrical is gonna cost you way more in the end. Changing out to 4 12's, you only spend money on the subs and new box and you can keep everything else the same.In the past year I have only been to 2 shows. If I did new 15s, I would have to go brazilian. I couldn't afford a bigger korean amp if I did that. I would just have to go taller in the box and it would be by 3 inches or so with a bottom port. It was gonna be about 150 dollars with 4 HDS212s and the wood for me to build it. Same amp, same electrical, same everything else. If you go brazilian, just don't wire it down to .5 then. Those amps don't do well at low ohms. Korean amps are more bullet proof and can handle .5 better. Go with whatever you can afford atm. I think 4 12's would be a good upgrade IMO. And then if you wanna upgrade after that, switch it out with 4 high end 12's and upgrade your amp and electrical along the way.If I did new 15s, I would have to go brazilian.
