Hi ive been runin 4 gauge wiring from my battery to my amp.I have 8 gauge runing from my ground in the trunk to my amp.I was runin a cap at once but got told i dont need it.cause my car battery should be able to work without it.Without my altrinator takin a hit that bad.So i took my cap off lastnight, rewired it all back an when i turn on my car my amp stays into protect mode.Does this mean i need a 4gauge for my ground in the trunk.? Im runin 2 american bass 12 dx with a American Bass 2500 PH the subs are wired down to 2 ohm load

If that amp is a true 2500w you should be using 1/0 wiring throughout the whole car. But definitely at least upgrade your ground to 4g. It could be you might need the cap in because your 8g wire is probably being too much of a bottleneck and dropping down your voltage, whereas the cap would have provided that small boost the amp needs to start up.

ty for replyin to that i was just thinkin the same thing bout the 8 gauge wiring, its a 2500@ 1ohm i barley have the gain on halfway up an i have my lowpass set to 70hz an my subsonic on 35.8 im thinkin the cap was chargin just enough for that little 8 gauge to have power enough to power the amp, cause when it would hit really hard an the voltage would go down past 1.14 on the cap the amp would go into protect mode.

put the cap in the system to help it out. acts like a voltage regulator to give the battery a more consistent load. Although you cannot escape the work load the alt is going to have to do with the cap or not.

a capacitor will only benefit a system with NO voltage drops they do not compensate for a poor electrical system, also the amp being in protect before playing sounds like it may have an issue internally.

that amp is not a tru power amp its only giving 1200 rms at 1 ohm u want the same wire size or a slightly bigger ground. and yes an extra battery will help in this situation but i would loose the cap

u also might notice that ur amp runs slightly hotter than it should this could be due to the smaller ground as well

ty all for your help an yes ive noticed with the 8 g wire runin to it for the ground in the trunk i smelled a burnt smell this morning,it burned all the way threw.Same thing happen with my wire runin frfom my battery to the fuse then to my amp for the ground,i had a 8g runin first to the fuse then a 4 g after the fuse for the ground to the amp people said ow yea its alright itl work well the 8 g at the begin of the fuse from the battery burnt to a crips.I had to replace it with 4 g wiring i just want it banging good witout having to use any kinda backup or cap
