Overall the R's would likely be louder because a HDC3 isn't much louder than a R on a burp (I've already tested it). But, the HDC3 may handle the power a little better. R's get warm pretty quickly.

The R's would only be getting just over 500rms....what they are rated for

 
With 500w a piece they will be fine, but they will get warm once you go a couple hundred watts over that rating for a continuous basis.
I dont listen to deafening music all the time, they are getting 650rms a piece now and love it
