its going in a GMC safari alot of empty space so the reason for downfiring is to eliminate some of the cancellation,, do yall think i should do simple ported box

down firing worked really well in my s-10.

What do you have that part sticking out for in between the panels? It'd technically be stronger if you mitered the edges of the panels to meet at an angle. You'd have more surface area glued up and would have a "keystone" effect to keep them braced to each other instead of a small strip of wood.
