350z owners. Install advice/knowledge please.

My friend just purchased an '06 350z w/20k miles on it. Pic below.

He's wanting to put a decent setup in there, but nothing major. I'm thinking passives, an 8" sub and a 4-channel amp to run it all. Maybe double-din up front.

I haven't gotten to see the interior yet, so, I'm looking for insight on a 350z install. Things such as speaker size, if comps are going to be an issue, where to mount tweeter if there isn't a factory location... etc. Any and all advice you can give me would be nice. Can I run an 8" on the rear deck?... etc, etc. I don't have a budget yet, so we'll see.

isnt the stock stereo setup pretty nice in those cars?? why not just throw a 10" sub in the back with a amp and call it a day?

No idea. He just said he wants a good setup in there. He may be willing to go active, but for now I'm just asking about install advice. I'll decide on the gear later after I get a budget.

No the stock stereo is actually quite terrible. All of my friends (2 lol) that own Z's say they absolutely hate the stock stereo in their and want it all gone. I listened to one of them and it was indeed pretty bad.

Now they also want to mod their cars to become faster than mine, haha, but that's a whole other story...

Someone in DIY linked me to some amazing installs, but I think those installs are a bit extreme for what we're planning on doing at them moment. I'm looking for factory location installs, and a small 8" or 10". He's not ready to drop a few grand on a setup, and to be honest, I don't blame him. Especially after spending $23.5k on the car itself.

Mainly just looking for teardown guides, info from people who've installed in these vehicles, etc. Anything that can help my process and things I might want to watch out for.

I'm not a fan of Pioneer's stuff, but for his purpose a D3 may be perfect for him. He got the car w/o navi, so the top "pocket" is empty. I'm also considering a PDX 4.150, Rainbow SLC comps (Don, did you hear that?) for the front.

Decent component set + 5-channel amp + single 10 inch sub = 350z goodness.

Keep the stock head unit if on a budget and get a new one when cash allows.

A single 10 can get pretty loud in that car.
