350-400RMS being equal, what makes a sub hit harder than another

I have a question. I recently installed a RF Punch Hx2 10 wired at 2 ohms in in my truck. I think it hits pretty well, but I don't have a frame of reference or comparison to know if another 10 in would hit harder or deeper.

Here's my question: if I ever choose to upgrade to a "better" sub, and I keep my RF Punch 3001 amp (birthsheet 396 rms), what are some suggested 10 in subs that would require the same RMS but hit nice and hard in a sealed box. I would probably keep the budget to about $450-500 or less.

(I know a JL w7 would require more power for example, so that wouldnt be in my thinking)

Thanks!

To be honest with you, you don't need to have a $450-$500 budget for your sub if you only have a 400w rms amp. Sooo, if you want a 10 that would hit harder & deeper, you should sell both your amp & sub and put that money towards a new amp and sub. Then you could have $600-$700 to work with. Now we're talking. You could get a 1,000w amp for around $400 and then have around $300 for just a sub. Does that sound good? Unless you want to keep the amp you have now for some reason.

sounds good to me, but i think he should just get a comp vr and use the rest of the money on pornos and trips to strip clubs.
Well, I like both of our ideas...wonder which one he'll pick? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/toast.gif.bc0657bf54b9ee653b6438524461341e.gif

Hmm.. an SE 10" might work well w/ that little power.. but i don't have experience with them @ all. Maybe an L5 10' if you want to modify your box a little bit.. I did see jlaine's brahma 10 video (in his doors.. drool.) w/ 150 watts and it looked like it was slamming in there. It's always an option, but you'd have to ask adire about that one.

I think the ideas are great, but I'm not really looking for some booming SPL coming down the street kinda thing, and I wasn't really hoping to have to get another amp. I was just wondering more about 10in vs. 10 in subs given the same amount of power.

If power is truly the only factor, then of course, if I wanted a 10 in sub to hit harder, I would have to give it alot more power. But if say a MTX 10 in vs. JL 10 in vs RE 10 in..etc is better and produces more output per 350-400 rms then that's what I was looking for.

Love the strip club idea though...
