I had 3 12" power acoustiks, and I just ordered 3 10" MAW-10" that should be here on Mon. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Here we go again with the "most people want...." BS. How do you know what most people want? Do you have a marketing business? Have you conducted independent studies? Do you have a pie chart? Please explain how you arrived at this conclusion.I have no interest in putting up huge SPL numbers.

I have plenty of power to run my system with a lot of headroom and it sounds great.

And for the record, my amp will do 1200 watts at 1 ohm if I need it to. That's low power?

lol

anyways, good luck with your setup. Looks nice.

An "odd" impedance means nothing. As long as the amp is capable of running at the impedance, its not an issue. My 3 subs are dual 4 ohm and that makes the impedance 2.7 ohm. I have sufficient power for my subs and my amp never breaks a sweat.
I'm fully aware that amps don't need a round number (and never really see one anyway), but one way or another, you're either not getting everything out of it or you're counting on impedance rise or a margin of safety in the stability rating of the amp when running an odd load.

In my particular situation, space for an enclosure was very limited. I went with 8" subs because of the mounting depth and enclosure requirements. I could have fit 4, but the enclosure would not have sounded like I wanted it to. I realize that my amp is capable of more, but it is not needed. My subs get approximately 250 watts each continous, which is plenty. I should not have to worry about fluctuations because my sub amp is 1 ohm stable. It is well within its abilities.

By the way, I completely agree with you. And thanks for posting an intelligent response and not bagging on my "weak" system.

I run 8's as well. I also used to run a whopping 400W to a XXX12. I'm like you, I really don't care about how loud it is as I'm more concerned with the quality rather than quantity of the sound. Also, I don't bag on other people's stuff, unless they act like asshats and even then I usually bag on them directly...
