Anyone have a system with 3 subs?? any size...just wondering why not many people have 3 sub setups....most people have 2 or 4 sub setups...what kinda 3 sub setup do you guys have and what amp you have to run those 3 subs??..thanks

i would guess the main reason people dont have odd number subs is because of the odd impedance load you end up with, it can make it difficult to give them alot of power

oh i see...cause most common subs used are d2 or d4's and they wire up wierd when 3 are installed....i have no problem with my 3 subs cause i have d6's and they are wired to a 4 ohm load....but my power is an issue...i only give my 3 subs about 500w rms 1000 peak at 14.4v....trying to look for a nice amp that is like 1000w rms at 1 or 4 ohms...found a few...but my system sounds good and i dont really want to have to get a new alt or change to 1/0 wiring

It was pretty common to run the old JL W6 subs in 3's since their dual 6ohm voicecoils made it easy to get either a 4 ohm or 1 ohm load for amps.

I had a system way back with 3 single voicecoil 4ohm subs running of an Pheonix gold 2x 25W "cheater" amp that also ran the rest of the system (big 4 way passive setup)

its just that my subs are getting old and i want 3 new ones...should i go d2 or d4?? and will my amp handle them...850x1@2 ohms....1700w max @ 2ohms

I have 3 MTX 8's running off of an MTX TA-7801. Works great.

An "odd" impedance means nothing. As long as the amp is capable of running at the impedance, its not an issue. My 3 subs are dual 4 ohm and that makes the impedance 2.7 ohm. I have sufficient power for my subs and my amp never breaks a sweat.

It means nothing to you because your system is so low power anyways. Most people want to maximize the most out of their amps and subs with the lowest impedience wiring. Of course your amp isnt breaking a sweat, there's nothing to break. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Here we go again with the "most people want...." BS. How do you know what most people want? Do you have a marketing business? Have you conducted independent studies? Do you have a pie chart? Please explain how you arrived at this conclusion.

I have no interest in putting up huge SPL numbers.

I have plenty of power to run my system with a lot of headroom and it sounds great.

And for the record, my amp will do 1200 watts at 1 ohm if I need it to. That's low power?
