I know one thing I hate about this kimber almost all parts need to be changed for two reasons one MIM parts 1000.00 for a kimber and you can see mold marks all over it and two the mainspring housing is PLASTIC wtf cast parts I don't mind as much but I hate mim parts with a passion my 1911 is with my buddy in florida he's going to give me exactly what's on the reciept when he get's back in town(and if he don't come back I guess I get his camaro with the modded LT1 engine thats in my driveway) btw did you add the grip ext on the walther or do they come factory, I had to find some pearce ext's for my buddy's taurus slim it felt like it was going to jump out of you hand with every shot added the ext whole different gun.
it came with on mag with an extension and one flat bottomed one. And yeah I will be swapping my kimber out to wilson bullet proof parts, since I have a 4'' version I'm getting an extended bull barrel to add a comp to it. I'm not sure if it would do much even on a 4'' version but at least it will add some weight to the front end. The ppk/s also came with black grips and mag extension but I changed that to silver.

OP said he has never handled a gun. While 9mm don't have bad recoil it is can still startle a new shooter. You don't want to learn how to shoot when you flinch on on every round. He could get both a 22 and 9 on his pistol budget.

ahhh you run ct's too I love mine on my 92 I have the lg302" but I'm thinking I might send them to ebay and get the 402's, the kimber I have/had is the stainless pro-carryII model but that two tone is sick! and yea you feel me on the mim parts too that's why mine went in my safe sat for three days and off to my buddy's, I wasn't willing to put as much into to it as a complete machined wilson combat in the end.

I would think at that price buying two guns will be wasting money on two crappy guns that will ftf fte and jam! that will be even more challenging and nerve racking to a new shooter, buy one good gun a 9mm is not a bad gun to learn on and if it's your first time shooting 22cal-50cal your going to be nervous go to a gun shop with a range they will have rental guns start there try everything you see that you like and I'm sure someone will be more then willing to help since you are a paying customer and possibly a nice sized sale they will go back and explain each weapon to you and they also have safety/shooting classes which are mandatory for a ccw permit.

I love 1911's I've already got another planned out to buy as soon as I find one. I want to silence it though. I've never heard a silenced .45 before. Thinking a 3'' barreled model like my 4'' and an AAC Tirant.

OP here are some .22's if that's what you want.

2-WACAP22004FC - Walther P22 Target Semi-Automatic Handgun .22 Long Rifle Nickel

2-BERT22NKL - Bersa Thunder Semi Automatic 22 Long Rifle 3.5" 10 Rounds Polymer Grips Satin Nickle Finish 3 Dot Sights

2-SGMOS-22-FDE-TB - SIG Sauer Mosquito Semi-Automatic Handgun .22 Long Rifle 4.9" Threaded Barrel 10 Rounds Black Polymer Grips Flat Dark Earth Finish

the biggest fault in .22 I can see is you can't dry fire practice with a rim fire. you would need to get snap caps and hope you have a hammer.

here are some 9mm's

75528 - SIG Sauer P226 Semi Automatic Handgun 9mm 4.4" Barrel 15 Rounds Reverse Two Tone Finish Cerakote Finish

77823 - Beretta 92 F INOX Semi Automatic Handgun 9mm 4.9" Barrel 10 Rounds Checkered Grips Aluminum Frame

2-GLPG1950203 - Glock 19 Gen 4 Semi Automatic Handgun 9mm 4.02" Barrel 15 Rounds Polymer Grips Matte Black Fixed Sights

i don't want this thread to turn political, so let me clarify somethings. i am not interested in anyones comments about gun control or about some other junk about gun control or someones right to own a gun especially since I am on the other side of the fence.
I have never even held a gun but have been interested in learning to shot a gun with accuracy. i would like to be able to shot a rifle and handgun with decent accuracy. as a first time gun buyer/owner what are things that I should be looking at in a gun? what other cost go into owning a gun? i've seen handguns from $200-$1500, i was planning on spending about $800 for a hand gun and $1500 for a rifle.

I would like my wife to be able to do this with me, are there any places that offer training in gun safety and shooting accuracy?

What other things should I be looking into or concerned about?
go to your local range and take a beginners class, feel what its like to shoot and see if you dig it

My local ranges beginner class is usually 10 people 4 hours...2 hours of class and 2 ours down range and you get to demo a nice variety of pistols.....what you think you want will change once you demo a few.......

A silenced 45 would be bad @ss but before I bought the kimber 4"barrel I did a lot of research and found that all that 45.cal mass in a 3" barrel can be finicky and prone to problems I would think maybe a 4" silenced just to be safe and reliable, the beretta in the link is sort of like mine I think thats an american made model mine has np3 everything and also that gun is not limited to a 10rnd mag stock Beretta mags are now 15rnd and mecgar makes a flush fit 18rnd and one with a 3/8 thick baseplate that holds 20rnds

thanks for the advice so far, didn't think i'd have 3 forum pages of reading to catch up with in a few hours. i'm glad to see so many forum members with in depth knowledge of this as that's what i'm looking for ppl that can point a noob in the right direction. looks like my next task is to find a few local gun ranges and see the difference in courses they offer.

for those that have asked what kind of shooting i want to do, I have no idea. the thing that got me interested in shooting anything is the show "Sons of Guns" which most of you know is based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. as with car audio i'm sure that a factory stereo system didn't get you in to sound, an aftermarket sound system got your interest. same with guns, i didn't know guns could be modified so much. now that i've seen that a gun can be customized to the shooter, i've got interest and want to see what I can do.

considering that I know a guy who's son ranked 4th for his age group at Nationals with a Buckmark, I think they are far from crappy. Springfield XD's are not known to be crappy either. I would recommend not diving into a hobby you know nothing about head first. Get a good platform to work with and see if it something that you actually enjoy spending time and money on.

OP if you are interested in modding a pistol. It depends on your style. You can do trigger jobs and get the internals polished for smoother actions and better performance. there are bolt-ons like laser pointers, scopes, and flashlights for the tactical side. A metal frame is easier to get colored to what ever you want. take it down to stainless steel finish, blued (the usual black gun finish), chrome/nickel plated. You can get softer rubber gripps (comfy especially on higher caliber guns) or different wood with lots of varying designs.

Just as an example of what can be done to a metal frame gun all these are Sig Sauer 229

what I meant by crappy is a low end gun like my wife bought last year Bersa it had every issue you would never want to have! anything that's only 250-300 new is not going to be very reliable and springfields are d@mn nice I totally agree I'm not saying go dump thousands on one piece either lots of renting and range time is the way to go, my buddy was drooling over a glock 17 I told him don't just buy it but it research it for problems first then test one and sure enough they have a common problem of ejecting shells right back into the shooters face within 10 rounds he caught one right in the face and down his shirt it went(tucked in) totally changed his mind and kept trying, he ended up buying my kimber from me instead.
