Had the dash out for some fiberglass repair and refinishing and decided to pull the factory single speaker AM radio and install a single DIN while wiring in my new widebands and gauges....

I havnt looked into this market in several years and I was and little blown away by how poor the products on the market are. My only requirements going into this were:

1. BT audio capability w Pandora via Hola for Canadian Android support

2. Two or more line display with selectable color tone that has auto dimming.

3. Inexpensive.

After spending 3 days browsing every car audio shop in town, pairing my phone and testing BT/Pandora connectivity I decided on a discontinued JVC unit, the KD-A95BT.

It has the best display of anything I found, even of 2015 models and the BT paired the easiest and works the best from what I played with it in store.

With that in the vehicle, it is now time for speakers. There are no factory speaker locations, so I'm going to squeeze some 5 1/4" coax or components in some aftermarket kicks, and build a rear deck to mount some forward facing drivers. I'm feeling likely 6x9 coax full - range out back to help out the tiny and buried and the floor 5 1/4" fellas.

I do have and few subs laying around as well as some alpine r type components and coax pairs, but for now I'd like to run on deck power.

It appears this headunit is capable of > ~20 RMS and it indeed made pretty sounds with the SPR- 17S pair, though in a vastly underpowered way.

Leaning towards some JL TR525CXi coax up front and JL TR690TXi triax in the rear. They're on sale, about 35% off.

Option two would Hertz Diaci DCX1303 and DCX6903; option 3 would be bottom end Kenwoods as the eXcelons are twice the price of the latter...

Any experience with the JL TR range for a deck powered warm, system? The Hertz don't have grilles, which I'll need.

Advice is welcome, I honestly don't quant to spend much on this as the engine is the primary music to be heard, but for those summer days around town.... clarity without harshness would be nice. I've always owned Alpine r types in the past and they've become too harsh for me. I'm not a fan of hard tweets and cone material unless it's louder than anyone else cares to hear, maybe I'm getting old.
