24 Volt System?

I was just thinking, wondering if it's possible.

If you were to wire two batteries in the trunk to produce 24 volts, and wire these to a second alternator that could charge em. Then you could still have a regular battery under the hood, powering everything besides the system. It could charge of the stock alternator.

Essentially all youre doing different is wiring a second alt(HO) to the batteries for the system, and having the stock battery in stand alone under the hood, being charged by the stock alt, powering everything else in the car.

Sorry If im being an idiot, but im going to school to be an engineer, so I naturally think of dumb shit. Figured it could almost double the output.

Because the voltage is doubling...
It's not like all resistors and capacitors and diodes and all the little pieces of an amp can just handle 24V because they can handle 12-16V...
Depends on the amp. My Orion XTR Pro 1000 can take 24v input all day. As long as the power supply is unregulated, it's not a problem.

You need a certain kind of amp, but it doesn't have to be specially made or modded. Several of the old Orions use unregulated power supplies. I know there are several other companies that made unregulated amps a few years back.

But you're right, you can't just use any old amp.

Just being unregulated isn't enough. Not nearly. You would need double the voltage (and current) headroom on all the devices in the amp from the power supply to the output stage. Some amps might be able to do this but they are the exception, hardly the rule.
Then I have been misinformed. Woudln't be the first time. I know some of the old Orions (XTRs and HCCAs) are supposed to be able to do it. Don't know what other ones are out there

24V + Amp = nice toasty fire....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

seen even the orion's do it...
