22 Tacoma Audio advice

Hey all,

Let me preface that this might be a lengthy post, if its answered in another post/forum/etc don't kill me, I did attempt to search as best as I could.

So I've got a 22 TRD Sport double cab, Non-JBL (despite Premium audio 8-inch radio is on the window sticker but manuals don't get that luxury) No subwoofer etc.

A year in of ownership I upgraded the door speakers with a set of Kickers ( KSS269 component set for the front door and KSC670 co-axial for the rear doors ) I understood that the factory setup delivers no power to the rear speakers but finances didn't allow for audio luxuries at the time.


I'm at crossroads here.. I see Crutchfield offers a CRUX 4 channel amp and harness but a broad range of processors. I'm not sure if I would need it if I'm retaining the factory radio.

To that end, I heard about TacoTunes and its NTUNE6 processor and amp under-seat assembly but I have no experience with the company. Seems to address amp and processor in one shot AND gives me the option to add a sub later since its 5-channel but it seems like I'll need extra harnesses to retain factory radio and controls if it is even an option.

Maybe it would help to say that I want to hear more out of my audio without going crazy. A subwoofer would be nice and I figure the factory radio is weak in terms of output so an aftermarket radio is necessary or at the very least a 4 channel-amp without spending double to do an aftermarket radio which again not the worst thing, but I'll piecemeal it together if it means do it once and be done.

An option offered by TGP seems to almost hit the nail on the head in terms of wiring/ amp and sub kit but again, will this be enough ? This seemed the most promising as it gave me the option to retain the factory radio for now and upgrade down the road.

TacoTunes had a good rep years ago, but I'm not sure if that holds true today. Alpine is definitely a reputable company to work with.
