21" 6" voice coil sub

6" voice coil and yet 1500 rms power handling. I guess that begs the question, why utilize such a large coil, with all the associated disadvantages, if you aren't intending on building a high wattage SPL driver? I guess I just dont understand the design goals of this driver. Pro sound... meh.
I don't know....I guess I would consider 3kw (program material) pretty high power handling considering they weren't designed for a 30s bassrace or 3s burp, but an extended sound reinforcement application. 3kw for a 3-4hr performance, or all night long in a club, is pretty decent.

They might have preferred the advantages of a larger coil due to the size of the cone.

Im curious what its real xmax figure would be. Im always VERY suspicious when a company lists peak-to-peak numbers instead. What do they have to hide? The accordion style surround doesn't look even look like its capable of the 30mm xmech the specs claim. But apparently it is.
PE states 15mm Xmax.

I don't spend a lot of time in PA, but I've noticed a lot of PA drivers advertise the Xmech. I could gander a few guesses as to why it might be important information to know considering their applications.

My bad, it does say 15mm xmax.

Im not real familiar with pro sound specs, but they list 1500 as its rms rating, which I would assume rates the same as what we are use to in the car audio world. If that's the case, talking about its program material rating is just another way to say peak power handling. Im not suggesting 1500 rms is a low rating, that's a pretty high power rating. But a 6" coil would imply more.

Your comment on it being for cone size makes sense though squeak. The old Clarion and Audiobahn 30"+ subs were a good example of that same thing.

What disadvantages would you be referring to?
Cost for custom tooling mostly.

Relating that driver in any way to car audio is just plain stupid (and ignorant). B&C makes some excellent pro audio drivers. I DJ and I would be overjoyed to use that as a sub in my setup. PA≠CA.

Absolute shit SQ that's for sure
Regardless of your cunning attempt to make me look bad,

you have really only made yourself look like an ignorant dumbass.

My argument had nothing to do with the SQ of abilities of larger cones,

But merely the desired output capability for a pure SQ competition setup.

(which are usually under 130db's)

That said, why would you spend (in some models) > +$200 to get subs with the potential to hit 150db's when the difference in your SQ obtained by the headroom compared to the next model down would be negligible at best? I never said that this was true of all subwoofer lines, but it is in a lot of them.

id run this before i would an IA DP 21" thats for sure. id be afraid to run 1500w off an IA DP more than i would something like this //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
