2016 Honda Accord Touring

Hello,

I am new to the forum and a newbie to car audio.

I recently purchased a 2016 Honda Accord Touring and want to upgrade the audio system. I went into a local shop and was quoted the following:

JL Audio

HD900/5: 5 Ch. Class D System Amplifier, 900 W $809.99

RBC-1: Remote Bass Control $28.99

10TW3-D4: 10-inch (250 mm) Subwoofer Driver, Dual 4 Ω $219.99

Focal

165AS 2 Way 6-1/2” Front $299.99

165AC Co-Axial Rear $229.99

Sound Dampening

MDF $400.00

Wires & Materials

Stinger $400.00

Install

Installation / Custom Box / Amp Tray $1200.00

Total: $3800

I have a couple of questions:

1. What do you think of this set up?

2. I checked the prices of the components and they seem to be ok. I am not sure how much installation cost for sound dampening, box making, etc.

What are you thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

David

Man I haven't been on this site in forever, but it hosts a lot of big car audio enthusiasts. And why you haven't gotten a reply is most see it as an art here. What they put in is what they get out. Car audio has its own flavor. You can have a big banging system with a wall of subs and while this may be some guys pride and joy, someone else may love his stock harmon kardon system that he added an equalizer and a subwoofer too. Most everyone on here does their own work and skimps out on the install prices.

What you are talking about sounds okay. Newer car, quoted on newer equipment. What I think you listed will sound good in a car like that. But BTW car audio also doesn't work like most other hobbies where more money invested equals a superior product. People can throw thousands at a project and be left worse off compared to where they started, but like I said what you listed should sound fine.

Its all install that makes a difference. Many people do their own work cuz like your pappy said if you want it done right you do it yourself. I'm not very experienced myself and still will have shops do installs if it won't affect my sound quality. Anything that matters I spend the time to do it right.

You wanted bass so a subwoofer will cover that. The upgraded speakers will be better than the paper woofers you got. Having them powered, installed, and equalized right will make the difference. People have PhD's in this field. If you have the money I say go for it. If not, or you have second thoughts, just do the woofer with knob. Later on do your research on speakers, head units, and amplifiers and maybe get a couple of buddies to help you throw it all together and really make your car sing.
