2013 Pioneers and Parking Brake Bypass

The video recommended earlier in this thread is the most lucid of the ones I viewed. A few tips that I didn't see on any of the videos or forums:

My Head unit setup: Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS w/ siriusxm and stock speakers. No ext. amp.

To complete this relay bypass task you are only going to be using the Remote, Parking Break, and Ground wires from the Pioneer's harness. If you are also using a Crutchfield supplied PAC or similar intermediate harness you still must connect the GND to the PAC (or OEM) harness. But, you do not need to include the REM and PB wires from the PAC or intermediate harness in your splicing.

You can tape those two wires off.

A tip on grounding requirements: A quick call to Crutchfield tech support yielded this interesting tidbit that they(or PAC) left out of the instructions:

Most likely your auto's OEM harness is already grounded. And the PAC harness GND wire matches up to that OEM harness. No need to run another GND wire to the sub-dash. I had already run a secondary GND; no harm in having an extra GND.

Some things to consider about my suggestions:

I had to alter the suggested relay wiring in the video to get the relay to trigger.

here are the pinouts that worked for me: (if this suggestion fails, try the alternative suggested in the video)

85 & 87 = Gnd

86 = REM

30 = PB

Parts required**:

*1 ea. 12V 30-40 amp relay (Recommended: 12V 40Amp Tyco/bosch SPDT 4-pin relay for sound/security systems. You want at least 30 Amp--these relays get real hot if they are rated less than 30Amp)

*a 10pk of 18-22 gauge Audio Female Disconnects connectors/lugs sized to fit the relay (my relay required 1/4" lugs).

* crimper, electrical tape, and stripper tool(s)

**all these items are available at most auto parts stores.

Follow the instructions in the video and watch it through to the end. He passes on some good info.

My install works, but...every once in a while the relay doesn't trigger quickly enough. so, I have to switch to the radio or sirius and then back to "Disk" or cycle the unit in order to get the relay to trigger at nearly the same instant that the "format read' occurs.

Play with it; you'll eventually get it to work.

Hope this helps someone.
