***2008 POLL: Sealed or Ported***

Sealed to save box space and get a flatter response. I'll give up a couple of db to get cleaner sound.

i have my 07 XXX 18" in a 5.35 sealed..

its pretty much a shot in the dark if the song will "hit"...

an example.

unk - flatline, comin down da street

joc - hell yeah, patron, its goin down

songs like those BANG on my system.

but then songs like

big tight - ride

alliance - digital

won't hit nearly as hard.

but, it is half powered and my electrical isn't the greatest.

but from what people say the XXX is a driver designed to be in a sealed box (big thread about this already months ago)

but im sure the XXX will destroy in a ported, or sealed. which on certain songs people do become scared of whats in the back of my truck

I perfer sealed, but I also like ported, just depends what sub I am running. I have only had bad applications with the ported though.....once.

Sealed is the way to go IMO, when it comes to being musical, but that's only when sealed or ported is an option. Some drivers, per recommendation of the manufacturer state that ported would be best, and in that case I would stick with the recommendation.

But when given the two options, I would choose sealed because for one, you don't have to worry about SSF and your sub will player lower notes, provided it is capable of playing low, it sounds smoother, and it's not peaky....it's much more natural IMO.

Where's the option in this poll for IB?
