2005 scion tc fiberglassing w/ pics...in progress

Ya ur box is much nicer than mine.

UPDATE: I have finished the back part of the box. It is 5.5 layers thick. That .5 layer is just on the joints. I used about 4/5ths gallon of resin adn two whoel fiberglass mats.

I think something is wrong if i have to use so much os i figure its strong enough. It's unbendable by now. Tiny tiny flex if any now. i still need to cut it to size and mount the ring tomorrow. I'll take more pics then.

What i want to know is if 5.5 layers should do or if i did somethign wrong. And also did i use too much mat or resin or somethign??

Anyone? How strong this thing need to be? 5.5 is strong enough for me to stand on. If i jump, i woudl break it. if i stood on the flat part or somethign it might crack. But overall it is very strong.

take some small scraps of wood or somthing and 'glue' it to the flat part with resin for added strength //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

5~7 layers should be quite fine.

UPDATE 5/2/2005

Ok so here's progress. I added a piece of wood first for some support. Also added another layer. So now i have about 6 layers and this piece of mdf. If thsi busts ill shoot someone.

I also just mounted my sub ring

I'll fleece tomorrow or wednesday if i can

Here's a pic of it outside the car:

Here's a pic in the car with rear seat not reclined:

Here's some comparison between being reclined and not being reclined

Ya i checked to make sure and it looks like it'll have about an inch of clearance over that wood plank i put in there and like 3-4 from the back

UPDATED 5/4/2005

Alright well i had to remount my ring cause it wasnt out far enough which means when i wrapped the fleece around it, the fleece didnt touch teh whoel ring. I figured that would cause it to possibly come loose in the future and i wouldnt know where to cut my circle and all that good stuff.

Here's a picture of it reringed and fleeced in my car.

and one more.

And here are some pictures of the fleeced box all saturated with resin n all that stuff before it dried....actually its drying as i type this outside.

and another.

and finally.

Anyways, i also bought the carpet i will use to carpet this and will put on the rest of the layers tomorrow or friday.

awesome man. i myself am planning to get a tc this summer and doing the same exact thing. however i plan on getting two tens and putting one of each on each side of the trunk. also i plan on making it flush with the tail light so it doesnt stick out im going to use a mdf board or two instead of brackets to close up the side of the enclosures.

yours is looking real real good. how much volume are you going to end up with?

and what kind of fiber glass did you use and where did you get it from?

So, for you glass freaks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif Why use Fleece?? I've done some fiberglass work in other projects and never needed anything more than the mat and glass cloth.

In that gumball pic above could you imagine trying to 'freehand' that? You staple or glue the fleece to the structure, put resin on it, then you have a base that keeps the basic shape as you add your layers. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
