2004 Mustang B-day Present

My friend asked me to install a JL 300/1 amp and 4 of their 6x9s in his brother's new mustang as his b-day present. I'm pretty new to this installing stuff but I know enough to be able to do it (I've done my car and maybe 3 others succesfully so far). I just have a few questions that maybe you all could help me with. First where can I tap an audio signal for the amp; should I just get it at the rear deck (where the amp will be) or do I need to get it right behind the head unit? His car has the standard system. Also do I need an LOC (if so what kind) or can I just tap the speaker wires? Lastly, I know doing this will make it so he can't use the fader, so should that just be set at 0 or should it be set toward the direction we tapped? Thanks alot.

Personally, whenever I do an install like this I tap as close to the amp as possible. I'd check to see if there is a Mustang/2004 Mustang specific forum and see if you can get the complete amp wire harness schema from there. Once you get that you'll need a line converter to take the tapped rear speaker lines and convert them to RCA. From there its easy, mount the amp and wire everything up. Now there might be an easier way to do this but this is the process we used when I installed subs and an amp in my friends Grand Am. Good luck.

How did you fit 6x9s? Mustangs have four 6x8s (if coupe)...
