2004 Cavalier install?

I had heard somewhere that the GM compact sedans (Sunfire, Cavalier) from 02 to atleast 05 had an issue that if you tried working on the car audio system the airbags would deploy.

My buddy has an 04 Cavalier and he is looking into having me install a system next time he is back from Fort Campbell.

So I need some help. Was this a rumor or is this an actual issue?

A rumor. Removing the stock radio will result in the loss of audible warning chimes, and nothing else.

Its a rumor. However there is some truth to it. It can cause fault codes like the check engine light or the airbag light coming on. They won't deploy though. Use a Metra GMOS-01 adapter to interface with it.

Had a 2002 and only lost door chimes and besides that never had a problem. Now if you want to spend some dough on a harness and need those, then get the one harness already mentioned. Good luck!

All I lost from my old 2001 Z24 was door chimes, everything else worked A-OK and when a deer smacked into me at 50mph the airbags deployed fine!!!

Is this true for the Impala as well?

What about the 'I left my lights on chime"? Or do cars that new have those all-the-time lights?

On mine, the headlights on chime was included with the doors, basically anything that would chime, doesn't after the install.

Dont know about the impala though.
